My week so far

As I mentioned before, I put small twist in my hair in hopes of growing locs. I have been obsessivley researching youtube, nappturality.com, and bloggers with locs. I have my up n down moments about continuing. My main concern is getting through the “ugly” stage of locs and worried that with my hair being so thick, my small twist may become thick fat locs...... which I dont want. I want my locs to be about the size of a pen or smaller. I am also worried about maintence, so people say that palm-twisting (which i plan to do) doesnt last long and if you get your hair wet, all the hard work is undone..... whats a girl to do? Ive looked up “interlocking” or “latching” but I do not have that kind of time or patience for that. I do love how neat locs look that are latched, and the long lasting effect is tempting. Overall, I am at least hanging in there until next month. lol right now my hair looks great, its just regular twist. I havent done much to it at all. I didnt add any product yet as I am trying to loc. Today i placed my hair in a “sock bun”, only I used a large scrunchi and just pinned the hair as one would using a sock
IMAG2586-2011-05-26-23-34.jpg Lastly, here I am chilling in my yard. lol I was in deep thought about my “locs”. IMAG2612-2011-05-26-23-34.jpg

Locs?

I know this will be a shocker for most, because I dont think I have ever mentioned this but...... I had/have a serious obsession/ love for locs. It has grown stronger over the past few days and today I decided to give it a go. I am not 100% sure this is what I want but I want it enough to give it a try.
I spent this day two strand twisting my hair, I did the twist smaller than I ever had and I used a comb for parting(something I never do) I told my husband yesterday that I was thinking about getting locs and he smiled and said " I knew you would eventually" he thought that my whole " natural" journey was to loc my hair, lol. That wasn't my intention, but I am glad he was accepting. As I write this I am trying to think of reasons that I don't want locs and there aren't many. I am happy I took the first step in the process. I know y'all prob think I'm crazy and am going in to the blindly but I have spent hours over the past few days stalking youtube loc wearers and bloggers. Even before I decided to loc I had been subscribed to a few ladies with locs.
Basically I want my hair locked because I think it's the best decision regarding hair for my lifestyle. I hate detangling and combing my hair even thought has gotten easier. I also love twist, as you can see that was the main style I wore. Even though I love twist outs , wash n gos, buns, and such I just don't have the patience for it. Yes it looks pretty, but I feel like you still have to style it everyday and I don't want to do that. I also don't like to worry about my hair getting ruined if it rains or if it's humid. This is one of the reasons I went natural! I just want to get up and go and if throughout the day I experience crazy weather, I won't have to worry about my hair.
I'm so excited for what's to come, I can't wait to see how long it takes my hair to loc, im hoping less than 6 months. I really hope to see some awesome growth, I really think my hair is secretly thanking me :)

Another one

I totally apologize for the random weird post. I was trying a blogging app for my new ipad. This picture was taken the day that I got it. Jarred suprised me... sorta, lol I knew he was going to get it. He had worked nightshift the day before and the morning he got off, he came home grabbed Jk and off they went. This was great for two reasons, 1. i got my ipad and 2 i got to spend some time with ava. Ava misses the days when we could have tea parties all day and such.
Anyways,  my hair is in large twist from last weeks wash. I have just kept them pinned up. I am beginning to enjoy this style over smaller twist. It literally takes about 30 minutes to twist, pin them up in 2 minutes, add a cute accessory and you are done. I also like styles that show off my face. Lol that sounds vain. Heres a few more pics of the style :)

we're talking 5 week hair here!

This is a twist out from my twist that were in for 4Weeks! I washed once while in twist halfway through. I took the twist out Friday night planning to wash and restyle but when I seen the potential..... I decided to go with it for another week. I'm sure detangling isnt going to be fun, but at least I have enjoyed good hair and minimal maintenance:) good times and by the way. Happy Mothers Day!

My Twist are a month old now!

Between a tremendous amount of family drama/stress, gardening, and my usual day to day life, I have had no time for hair. I am so glad I out these twist in when I did and am thankful that they are lasting. For maintence:
I have been allowing them to get wet in the shower each day, then I add sweet almond oil.
I retwisted the nape area to keep them “neat looking.
I have washed them once and they held up pretty good. I am happy to report that I havent had to play with my ends to keep them curly. My hair is finally to the point where almost every twist is curling on its own just the way I like it. I have also tried a few styles which has kept my hair interesting. Enough rap, heres the pics lol

washed twist

My hair was so itchy and dry, it had been 2 weeks since I put them in. I washed my hair last night with the terressentials mud wash. I even massaged n scrubbed my scalp. I didn't care about frizz or unraveling lol. After washing, I added sweet almond oil and put about 6 large twist in to go to bed. This is my hair this morning! No more itching or dryness, not too much frizz, and no unraveling!

twisted up of course

A couple days ago I washed my hair and twisted for another fab twist out. My hair was damp when u twisted and i had to take ava to school, I pinned my twist back and put on a scarf. Later that day we were going shopping and I didn't feel like taking the twist down. I just added a headband and kept it moving. This was Thursday..... today is Sunday and ny hair is exactly the same. What can I say.... I enjoy the simple things in life! Lol

this weeks twist and aloe vera

I decided to twist this time around with ORS twist n lock gel. As I have stated before i have been having problems keeping my hair soft n moisterized...... on to the aloe vera

For the sake of boredom, curiosity, and the little scientist in me, I decided o extract some aloe vera gel from my plant and spritz my hair with it. I must say it felt lovely on my hands, when I put it in my hair at first it felt sticky and dry, but as I rubbed it in it began to make my hair feel really soft. I'm excited to see the results in the morning. I also twisted large sections of my hair and kinda pincurled it tonight for tonmorows style. I am hoping I will have some length and a nice curl to my twist . Oh yeah I have a video of my aloe vera extraction, will upload soon :) all for now!

Tangle Teezer, Contest, New Naturals, Denman Brush,Twist Update!

This will be along post, so it will be broken down into sections :)

Hair Update- Currently, my hair is large twist. I havent washed my hair in almost 3 weeks. I did the twist after taking my smaller twit out, wore a twist out for two days then used my denman to detange and then eventually retwsted my hair. nothing special really, but its been a good style for the past few days where I havent felt like doing my hairIMAG6747-2011-02-24-20-30.jpg

This is my shortly lived twistoutIMAG6581-2011-02-24-20-30.jpg

Tangle Teezer- after seeing NaturalChica’s demo of the tangle teezer, I had to get one. I ordered it from Sallys and it came today! I will be using it this weekend :)

Contest- I won my first contest! It was held by mommmyg05 on youtube. I am a 3rd place winner, but a win is a win! I also entered Naptural85s recent contest and am keeping my fingers crossed for that one

New Naturals- Include my sister, Tiffany who did a BC a day after watching youtube :) and my friend Lakeya is thinking about joining.

Denman Brush- I used twice since I bought it a few weeks ago. I have nothing negative to say. I will not be using a comb to detangle anymore lol. That denman was like magic, I can only imagine what the tangle teezer will be like.

ok, all for now, I am exhausted :(

twist challenge update

So after a brief lapse in the challenge, I got myself together again and came back to my twist. These were done on hair that was dries overnight in larger twist. I didst use any product to twist, the only thing in my hair was giovanni direct leave in. I was shocked that the twist held so well. For washing, I shampooed with my pantene then detangled with herbal essence. I also used the denman brush I recently purchased to further detangle I guess? I really wanted a tangle teezer but couldn't find it anywhere:(

Anyways, for the challenge I have learned that ny hair needs to be washed and detangled fully at least every two weeks. I notice if I leave twist in longer they become lifeless, dry, and kinda matted. I am still working on a good mix for a daily spritz.

In other news, my sister had finally really decided to be natural. While in the poconos I convinced her to let me twist her hair. She wears a half wig over it but I will take what I can get, lol. She actually says she likes playing with her twist and she's thinking about cutting her permed ends off. My friend tiffany is also thinking about being natural. I spent the day introducing her to curlynikki, naptural85, nikkimae, and kimmaytubes. Needless to say their hair alone made her want to be natural.

Tis all for now :)

Twist Style

The other day I was playing around with my hair. I was trying to find a cute updo, that didnt require too many bobby pins and one that would look nice without accessories. This style was perfect and easy, my hair is just rolled around to the side and then pinned into a bun. I added a flower just becase, but this still looks ok with the flower.

I am also wearing make-up in these pics. its not much at all, my friend Tiffany did it. I didnt want to look like a celebrity or anything, just everyday me with a lttle glam :)

2nd trim

so I gave in... I had to wash my hair, it was so dry and lifeless. I carefully detangled my whole head while taking the twist out, then i wet my hair and "dry" detangled before I washed it. I lost a lot of hair detangling, but I expected this being as though i didnt wash and detangle in almost a month. I also trimmed my hair, I am getting so sick of those stringy heat damaged ends! Right now, my hair is in large twist. I will retwist tommorow after it dries overnight. I plan on using my shea moisture curl smoothie. Im changing my challenge up a little, but still will stick to it. I also need to do another length check because i trimmed at least an inch off in the front. I went from hair well past my chin, now only to my lips :(

ok, be back tommorow or in the next few days with pics of my twist!

wash #1

So I washed my twist a few days ago. I twisted sections and secured with an elastic band. I misted my hair with conditioner and water and then rinsed. Once my hair was almost dry I added cantu shea butter and Africa best oil. My hair did shrink considerably but after having it in big twist for a few hours allowed it to stretch. I retwisted some parts of my hair and found that my hair was not tangled! I am very pleased with my twist challenge so far :)

I should have washed it this weekend but I am not going to because I just redid my twist last week. Instead, I will wash next weekend. Heres my styles during the week...all 2 lol

100% Twisted Challenge!

This will be a personal challenge of mine (but all are welcome :)) I have decided after retwisting my hair today, that I am gonna try a low manipulations routine. I’m sure I can find a way to wash my hair while twisted and hopefully not experience too much tangling. Heres my plan:

-Keep hair in two strand twist for 1 month at a time. I will retwist on the same hair every 2 weeks or as needed.
-I plan on washing my hair while twisted. I will braid it in sections and just lightly massage my scalp, I will leave the braids in until my hair dries and retwist/detangle after a couple days of moisturizing
-I will be moisturizing my hair daily or as needed with African Best Herbal Oil and Cantu Shea butter. I recently did this on two week old twist and it worked wonders~
-finally, i will try to keep my hair pinned up. I style my twist just about everyday. SMH,mainly because I like to play in my hair lol

I thought of this challenge after retwisting 2 week old twist. The day before I retwisted I moistened my hair with a conditioner/oil/water mix, added some shea butter and a little more oil and then started retwisting. My hair was so soft and virtually tangle free! I retwisted my whole head over two days, just doing small sections when I felt like it lol. I have been thinking a lot of “keeping it simple” , going back to basics and about people with locs. The folks with locs have such amazing growth because they arent fussing with their hair every week. (i guess :)) I also have been thinking to the good old days when, my mom did my hair as a kid. It was usaully washed/braided every two weeks or so, and my hair was heading down my back (until I begged her for a perm smh) Anyways, I am convinced that if i just leave my hair alone for a few months, I will see some growth :)

I hope that I can retain some length and actually see some growth from this. I am aiming to keep this routine up until March! Wish me luck and/or join me if you like!

Heres a pic of my retwisted hair! My hair hasnt been washed in 2 weeks now, but its not dirty. it soft, moisturized, and smells good!Photoon2011-01-02at20.502-2011-01-2-20-54.jpg

If anyone is interested in joining, please just say so in a reply. I will start a thread on the Challenge Section. I will also have a tag for this on my blog, and you guys can follow through blogger. the link to my blog is my siggy :)

still twisted

I haven't made a hair post in a little bit because I have been so infatuated with my keyboard, iMovie, and finding new software for my macbook. Not to mention trying to get ready for Christmas lol. Anyways these twist are about a week or so old. I didn't like them when I first put them in because I did them kinda big and thy just didn't have the rift curl. I kept them in anyway, every other night I mist them in he shower and rub either shea butter it shea moisture curl smoothoe through and toss my bonnet on. I don't do much with saying, I usually just pin the sides back and keep it moving.

All for now, I am watching Charlie brown Christmas with the kiddies :)

keeping with the twist

I am currently in a challenge over at curlynikki.com I'm supposed to keep my hair in 2strand twist m-f. Iove twist but sometimes get bored with them and sometimes I just want to try the "out styles". Yesterday I tried a braidout with KCCC but was to lazy to allow it to dry, I say under my conair dryer for about 30 minutes then tried air drying for an hour or so. I was to impatient and just started twisting with my hair about 70% dry. I didn't use any product since I had the kccc and knot today. I did small twist which came out pretty nice. When I was all done I spritz with water, leave in, and jojoba oil. My hair curled up nicely and I was a happy camper.

I plan on sticking with this challenge at least until December. I want to see some growth but more than that I want my hair to stay healthy and continue to just learn my hair. I'm not very good with "out styles" but I am with twist. I figure why try to fix something that isn't broke lol
